Sony Silent on any Xperia update to Android v5.1 Lollipop. Sony may have been busy rolling out Android Lollipop v5.0.2 to some of its Xperia models, but there is no likeliness that users could see a Lollipop 5.1 coming to their devices yet. A number of other smartphones, including Nexus, have started getting their Android L 5.1 OTAs. Xperia users have been expecting better features and bug fixes over the Android Lollipop 5.0 for some time.
Earlier an announcement was made about rolling out an Android 5.1 update on Xperia Z Ultra and Z1 by May. But the company hasn’t followed up on the announcement. It is claimed that the latest Android version has made several fixes to issues with the previous Lollipop versions. The most notable one has been the issue of grave memory leak that causes apps to crash.
It is also reported that the new Android OS can increase the device’s battery life by up to 90 minutes. Currently, the only Android Lollipop update that Xperia users can see is the v5.0 update for their Z2 or Z3 devices.
Despite the bugs reported by users, the v5.0 Lollipop has delivered several new features and benefits. The most noticeable ones include a finer UI and appearance, easier application transfers between internal and external storage, creation of multiple user profiles, and refined notifications. But if Sony can roll out v5.1 for its Xperia users, it would mean faster and more refined devices. Besides, users will be able to take advantage of better call feature supported by HD Voice. This new feature enables clearer HD calls with other Android 5.1 devices.
Despite its earlier announcements, Sony hasn’t given out any signs that could indicate a looming Android 5.1 update in the near future. Until some indication or an insider leak comes through, keep checking this section to remain updated for your Xperia’s likely Lollipop update.
