Micromax Yu Yureka Review: smart phone with good features and affordable price

Micromax, a company popular for manufacturing entry level smart phones at most affordable prices, has recently partnered with Cyanogen Inc for their new Yu range of smart phones.

Widely speculated for quite some time now, the company has finally launched the first smart phone in this range, Yu Yureka.

While it is very clear by the company’s approach that they want to keep this range out of the Micromax’s shadow and create a unique identity for this YU range of smart phones, we are yet to see the market response for this strategy.

Micromax Yu Yureka Review

Like thousands of mobile users, if you are also eager to know the features and details of this new smart phone, then here is a comprehensive review of Yu Yureka:

Software & Hardware Specification

What we loved:

Presently running on Andriod KitKat version, the Cyanogen OS 11 operating system, Yu Yureka provides excellent user interface.

The hard drive powered by 1.5 GHz octa-core processor on Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 (64-bit) chipset and 2 GB of RAM works completely in sync with the software to give you smooth operation. Even heavy graphic apps and games seem to run without significant lag time.

What could be better?

The phone tends to hang while playing with themes.

Design & Display

What we loved:

  • With well rounded edges and smooth finish; Yu Yureka sports a quite premium design.
  • The Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the front screen is definitely a great feature.
  • The 5.5 inches display with 1280x720p resolution is really grand.
  • Display quality is commendable in both indoor and outdoor.
  • Colour representation is quite good

What could be better?

  • The built quality is nowhere even close to the previous offering from Micromax such as Canvas HD.
  • No colour variants available.

Performance & Gaming

What we loved:

  • Yu Yureka scores a brownie point when it comes to performance. Games and other heavy apps run alright without much problem.
  • The heat dispersing is pretty good, especially when compared to another Micromax device Micromax Canvas Knight which is ill famous for its heating issues.

What could be better?

  • Though the performance is not bad, it fails to cut any edge when it comes to competitions like Xiaomi Mi3, OnePlus One and the Note 4.
  • High end gaming has a lot of chance to improve.

What we loved:

  • The 13 MP primary camera is a big plus point.
  • The 5 MP front camera enables you click awesome selfies.
  • The picture quality is pretty good in well lit environment.

What could be better?

  • The picture quality suffers in indoor shots and shots in poor light conditions.
  • No stabilising feature available, thus the video is quite shaky.

The 2500mAh battery is good all over. While used a little wisely can run for a full day.

Priced at INR 8,999, it is one of the most affordable smart phones.

Our verdict

While the Yu Yureka has many shortcomings, it is also true that at this price range you cannot expect more than this.

So, if you are looking for an entry level smart phone within the price range of 10K, Yu Yureka can be your best bet. Over to you!
