While the world is crazy about stylish and innovatively designed Smartphones, sometimes a few contenders appear on horizon that with a retro feel about them. That was the case with Blackberry Classic.
Now, LG has opted for a retro mix by unveiling an Android Smartphone that comes in a flip form factor! Flip phones are all but a thing of the past but it looks like LG feels reintroducing them with Smartphone functionality can appeal to a section of users.
The flip Smartphone, namely LG Ice Cream Smart has been launched exclusively in South Korea, home turf of the tech giant. Even last year the company had unveiled another flip phone, called LG Wine Smart. It is not likely that LG will launch this handset in other markets anytime soon.
As far as specs are concerned, this device is not spectacular at all. The device is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 CPU and 1GB of RAM. It has a 3.5 inch LCD display with a resolution of 320×480 pixels. You get 8 GB internal storage and there is a microSD card slot too. There is a rear camera with 8 MP lens and you also get a VGA front camera. Connectivity wise there is Bluetooth 4, Wi-Fi and LTE. Available in Pink and Mint shades, the device is equipped with a 1700mAh battery.
The regular keypad rules out any possibility of using QWERTY. It brings back the experience of T9 texting-which was prevalent in feature phones of earlier generation. The keypad contains shortcuts to launch the cameras and certain apps. Apart from the retro style clamshell form factor, the LG Ice Cream Smart features KakaoTalk- a cross-platform messenger app.
As a matter of fact, the LG Ice Cream Smart is a hybrid flip smart phone. It runs on Android Kitkat 4.4 OS and combines touch screen functionality with a regular keypad. It is clearly not aimed performance seeking users. However, the handset with its cuteness and clamshell form will appeal to users who like devices that stand out in a crowd of similar looking contenders.
