Apple and Samsung are always in a tussle. Apple seems to be winning with its iPhone 6, but it will take a month to determine how the Korean major performs in the market with its latest release – the Galaxy S6. But a secondary war of the iPhones and Galaxies keeps taking place in the background. While Apple played with its iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S last year, Samsung released a series of secondary Galaxies to rival. This year the tussle is going to become even tougher with the record success of the iPhone 6 in the backdrop.
So Apple is rumoured to set the game rolling by releasing iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and an iPhone 6C this year. The Cupertino-based company hasn’t revealed much about the features of the new iPhones. LTPS panels and Corning Gorilla Glass are expected to come as standard in all the devices. Fingerprint scanning and NFC, which have become almost the standard in top end phones, can also be expected.
It has also been rumoured that the new iPhones are going to have smaller displays. It is also claimed that one of these handsets will have a 4-inch screen. Critics exclaim that this could be a more reasonable option considering that the currently available phablets are too large to sit easily in the palm.
At the same time another school of tech experts say that launching a 4-inch device alongside the larger iPhone 6S and 6S Plus could be a poor decision. The iPhone 6C could feature a plastic body rather than an aluminium one, which has long remained a standard for iPhone.
The Apple 5C was launched a couple years ago with a plastic case in a number of colour options – a trend Apple broke from its tradition. The bright coloured, pink, green and yellow phones came as big surprise for the industry.
It is expected that the new iPhones will also have Force Touch, which was already launched by Apple in the new MacBook. The feature will enable the phone to distinguish between a long press and a tap. Apple has developed a series of commands around this feature.
Some information about the processors has also made its way up the grapevine. The iPhone 6C is expected to feature an A8 CPU. An A9 chip is expected to power the iPhone 6S. But there is no additional information about the camera, iOS version or other specs yet.
